Account & evaluation of Shoot day !

The 31st of January was our shoot day. The friday before we had to set up so we were organised and ready to shoot on the day. A few little tasks had to be done, such as painting the Magician's box, setting up the stage and arranging the tables and chairs for the audience who would be part of our thriller.
The magicians box was made by George, it was simply just made out of chip wood and then as a group we painted it black. The table's and chairs were supplied by the school, and we just covered them with white table clothes and wine glasses.

As a group we decided that we wanted our thriller to be set in the 1950's. It was to have a burlesque bar type feel to it. We created this by having a large black curtain drawn around the outside of the stage, black flooring and black walls. We also had a number of props that helped to create this atmosphere:

  • Black Magicians Box
  • Wine glasses
  • Wine bottles
  • A top hat
  • Fake blood
  • Smoke machine
We wanted our set to seem very busy, because it is supposed to set in a bar/theatre so we had the tables close together to create the illusion that there was more people. Our continuous tracking shot started off in the crowd of people, occasionally getting mid shots of the backs of people. The people sat on the tables were asked to talk normally with each other and ever so often clink their glasses. We asked them to do this so we got a good idea of the sort of sounds we would need to add more of later in the editing process.

The actors and actresses were asked to dress in smart clothing, the magician was dressed in a smart black suit with a red bow tie, waist coat and top hat, his assistant was in a a gold shimmery dress and black heels. The reason we wanted the cast to be dressed smartly is because it fitted the time period we were going for.

The cast were not needed until late morning therefore it gave us time to do a few quick testing shots. We made sure that the tracking shot ran smoothly and that the set worked well. The shooting itself was quick, it went really well and all the shots we filmed were accurate and looked good.

Overall i feel that our thriller was very successful and the final outcome will be great.
