Two really good posts - love the scribd presentation - do need to consider the target audience more in terms of demographics and VALS.  Need to complete with work on target audience as soon as possible - very clever blogging and creative post.  Keep up with the proficient posts.

Research and evaluate the institutional context of your artist?

Our artist Affi fits into the grime genre, therefore we needed to find a record company that supports and signs grime music. Whilst researching i came across a record label called 'No hats, No hoods'. They are one of the biggest underground music rave organises as well as a promising new record label to the grime scene that has seen some sucessful music releases recently. For example - Tempa T who has been a huge influence to our group in the process of creating our artist 'Affi'. 'No hats, No hoods' is a reletively new record label and isn't yet very well known. It attracts a small audience who are specifically interested in the grime genre. Although this may seem as a disadvantage because many artists want to be well known and popular within the mainstream audiences i personally feel that our artist 'Affi' would be better off signed to a record label that concerntrate on the grime genre. Having a record label that is strictly interested in selling the grime genre to the public means that our artist is more likely to become popular because the record label will be concerntrated on selling that genre to its exsisting audience as well as others. Below is a link to the record label -    http://www.nohatsnohoods.co.uk/.

The target audience of our artist 'Affi' would be the younger generation. A teenage audience to young adults. Between the ages of 16-20. The majority of 'Grime' fans tend to be ethnic minorities and from working class families this is usually because of the roots of the music. Here are a few images of our target audience.

There are some good creative posts on the blogs which cover your initial concept well.  You do need to post the brief and what about who else you are group working with.  Slideshow is good.  Would be even better if you continue to link your ideas with real media products and link with theoretical ideas use Negus on the Music Industry and Dyer on Star Image.  Keep up with the efforts on your blog and stay creative in your presentation.

Writing up our proposal.

In the past few lessons we have have been coming up with lots of different ideas for our music video. We have done lots of  research on what we want to include in our music video. After looking into different concepts we have all chosen our favourite idea's and brought it together to outline the main concept for our video.

The artists name in our video is going to be - Affy. The reason we have chosen this is because its short and snappy and also is just a shortning of the main

Narrowing down our idea's.

Ghostpoet's video of 'cash and carry me home' inspired us to create a deep and dark video, designed to unsettle the audience. The design elements used within this video has given us an idea of the theme that will run through our video and the sort of minimalisitic prop type we will be using.
After watching this video we have come up with a list of possible props/ideas to use-:
- oil canister (set alight)
- see-through glasses
- a cardboard cutout of the innards of the body.
- large heads placed on small bodies- puppets
- clear bottles, jars, hanging up (fluorescent liquids in the bottle)

-Setting - blacked out studio space (minmal)
- using the natural light created by the flames of the oil canister
- possible spotlights focused on the props
- floorlights

Characters- Afalabei will be our main guy who will play the part as of the grime artist in question.

Task One - The concept continued.

Type of Act-

Individual, quirky.
These are a few images of the type of look we are going for. We want our act to look more old school and retro.

The performance – We want the performance to be dark, unexpected arty and creative. We also want it to be very minimalistic and simple, the reason for this is so when we do use props and interesting camera shots it has more of an impact on the audience.

 Star Image

The star image of our artist is going to be very alternative and individual. Alternative dress is fashion that does not conform to style trends that are popular at that moment of time. Its attention grabbing and more artistic then practical. Quite often alternative dress is influenced by music or the style of a particular artist.

Audience
Our audience is mainly targeted at Teenagers, young adults and people who are interested in the genre we have chosen. Its not a mainstream audience we have chose to target our music video at instead we have decided we want it to be targeted at a more specific and niche audience.

The Concept- task one

The Concept

Task 1

Song- Mikill Pane – Party animal.

The Genre of the song and act we are doing is - Grime/ dance music. The reason we have decided to investigate The Grime/ Dance genre is because it’s a genre that is of huge interest to our age group. It is also a new genre.

Research – History of Grime/ Dance.

The grime/ dance genre was first discovered in East London in the early 2000’s.  Dizzie Rascal and Wiley were two of the first artists to bring the genre to the mainstream audience between 2003- 2004. Although it was brought to the attention of the mainstream media Grime / dance is still considered as ‘Underground Music’. Record labels are still to acknowledge the Genre and expose it to the Global market.

Lesson on music industry.

76% of the music industry is owned by 5 different music companies. The remaining 24% is owned by independent music companies.

They BIG 5 include : Sony, Universal, EMI, BMG and Warner.

Nowadays artists have music video's that go with their new releases. But what is a music video ?
Music video's are a 'Promotional Tool'. They backup the song and help to sell it. It also links the artist to the song because they feature in the music video therefore you begin to recognise them and their music more, and it tells a story or what the song is about. This is what we call SYNERGY. An example below of a music video that promotes the artist as well as film that it features in.

The film is called 'Harry Brown' and Plan B features in the film as well as his music. The music video itself is taken from the film.

When music is produced as well as music video's they must have a target audience. For example 'Justine Bieber's' target audience is girls between the ages of 14- 17, boys between the ages of 10-14 and familes.
Your audience has to be specifically targeted for the product to sell. By targeting young teens it also ensures that the product will be enjoyed by families as well as parents because their children will be listening and watching the music.

Research into performance shooting and editing.

When filming our prelim music video we made sure that every shot we took either concerntrated on a band member or informed the audience about what was going on.

Doing particular shoots of band members allowed the audience to see who was who and also see what instrument they were playing. It also gave them screen time and showed the audience their importance and roles in the band.

Prelim Music Video - Little Birdie

Below is the final and completed Music video 'Little Birdie' that we produced as a group for our preliminary task.

Music Video Analysis

Emeli Sande is an attractive, quirky, unique and individual new artist. The music video is based around the word 'Heaven'. We see Emeli Sandedressed in black almost preachery clothes and holding her crucifix in her hand. This suggests to the audience that she is religous. Her star image in the music video i feel is that she is seen as a God, angel or someone who can provide guidance to those who need it most. Throughout the video there is alot of referance to the skies. We see many shots of different people looking into the distance or up to the skies. This suggests they are looking for guidance. The members of public that feature alot in the music video could also be looking for (Emeli Sande) who like i said in the video is the God figure.

Emeli Sande is always based somewhere high up in the video. This represents to the audience that she has something to do with the 'Heavens'. Through the duration of the whole video we see alot of referances to 'Crucifix'. This again reinforces the fact that the video has strong links with religion and guidance from above. Not only do we see people looking up into the skies and into the distance but we also see people who are in need. For example there is a shot of a women in dim light, it looks like she has just taken something and is in need of help. Overall i feel that the main message the song is trying to portray is when life takes you to great lengths to survive will you still be recognised by god or people that can support you with guidance.
